My Summer Research Experience at ETH Zurich
During the summer of 2026, I spent ten weeks at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, a joint institute of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. My project explored how different microelectrode designs affect electrical stimulation in neural tissue. I used LibreCAD, KLayout, COMSOL Multiphysics, and MATLAB during my work.
This was the first time I had taken part in an academic research project. It was also my first experience writing a technical report at an academic level. Preparing the report taught me how to organize my methods, results, and observations clearly. I then presented my work to the academic team. Sharing what I had learned and receiving their positive feedback was a great experience and a real honor for me.
Working in an international research environment also helped me become more independent. I learned to ask questions, accept feedback, and continue working when a problem was difficult. The experience showed me that research requires patience, communication, and responsibility.
This project may influence the direction of my future. It helped me see the connection between electrical engineering and the human nervous system more clearly. My interest in studying neuroscience and neuroengineering may have started from this important summer experience in Zurich.
